16 CPUs... This is the stuff of POV-Ray dreams!

...and this is the harsh reality. :-}

Have a look at QNX:
http://www.google.com/search?q=QNX+distributed+computing
- Or read about dsh (distributed shell for Unix machines).

Maybe someone suggested it before but I don't have time to check, MS
launched Windows Home Server that goes with a HP Home Server (midi-tower
like case), don't know about hardware specs about it but I think it has
2 sockets so you can get you 8 cores, good luck :)

Hi Ben
I've got this machine, and I'm think about maybe to give it away.
http://supermicro.com/products/system/4U/8044/SYS-8044T-8R.cfm
It has 4 CPUs and 8 Cores 16VirtualCores with Hypertreading active.
The CPUs are: Xeon 7120 Dual 3GHz and it has 8GB Memory.
I'll need this machine until end of April ore May. Are you interested?
-holger-
Ps.: Its very loud :(

Very :) But I have a hunch the shipping alone would be prohibited
(depending on where you are).
Email me the details, and we'll talk.
