Hello, between PS2, PS3, Xbox, and Wii,  what would you say is the best
gaming system as far as availability of games for a 7-year old? I'm
particularly opposed to 1st person shooter games.  I particularly like
racing games.

These days, Wii is the way to go for children. There are games for it that
adults will enjoy but it's the most kid-friendly. I don't know how many
racing games it has, though. PS2 is good for variety because it's been out
for ages now. Xbox 360 is good too but generally more adult / hardcore gamer
oriented. The PS3 I wouldn't recommend to anyone (too expensive, quality
similar to xbox 360, fewer good games).

Wii.  No question.  OK so graphics may not be up on par with the other two, 
but the gameplay and interaction more than makes up for that.  A 7 year old 
will easily pick up the Wii Sports games (which came free with mine) but 
there is subtle skill involved for adult gamers to get higher scores.  WHy 
don't you go to a store and take a look at the games available?  The only 
other game I have bought so far is "big brain academy" which is sort of like 
an interactive IQ test, although I've hardly played it compared to the 
sports game.

I think the graphics are fantastic on the Wii, but it's a personal
preference. I dig the Super Paper Mario sytlized artwork over the creepy and
not quite ever real enough look of the bazillion war/shooter games
advertised for the other systems. I've got to go get the new Strikers soccer
game to give that a whirl.

The game play on the Wii is great. Take something like Madden Football,
which is the same game every year for the most part. Add some unique
gestures for control on the Wii and you have a brand new gaming experience.

Oh yeh, sorry I meant the actual graphics style is great.  I too love the 
cartoony type artwork.  My only annoyance is the low resolution output 
(maximum 480p IIRC), it looks a bit rubbish when viewed close-up on a big TV 
(as I imagine most people do when playing).

I'm waiting for a better tennis game to come out.  I got totally addicted to 
the Wii Sports tennis game for several months, but it's a bit limited once 
you've mastered the fast serves and spinning the ball - and it gets 
frustrating at times, like when you want to do a backhand shot but it forces 
you to do a forehand so you can't get the angle.

Yeah, I agree. I've played a lot of tennis in my life, a good tennis game
would be really fun. Especially with networked play.

I did buy the Strikers soccer game, it's pretty fun so far. I haven't tried
the network matches though.
