Unless you put something like this on. I'm using it and it's quite effective

Precisely. Wordpress has an Akismet plugin, which I believe comes with
Wordpress by default (if not, one can always install it). Since I
installed it, I think only one spam comment got through and it prevented
200 others.

If that's an option. It is on wordpress.com, and yes, it is effective
there.

I read somewhere about using it on other blogs, not hosted at wordpress.com.
Can't remember the link, but shouldn't be hard to search for. Something
about registering at wordpress, but just creating an account, not a blog
then using that.

Yeah, that's kind of what worries me...

I don't have that option. I can't do anything to WP; it's just *there*,
and I can use it if I want. I can't modify anything. (Can't even install
new themes...)
I do, however, have some sort of hash-cash based JS plugin that's meant
to blog bots. (Won't stop humans though.)

Well, for sure it works on any Wordpress blog, even if not hosted on
Wordpress.com. Pity he can't enable it with his host...

Too bad I can't find a good spam protection system for PHP Fusion :(
(I found one mod that requires a simple CAPTCHA, but there are already
reports that spammers have mastered it)
