Now she is a smart and well spoken person.
I have boys aged 8 and 5. They are certainly learning (or will learn)
the times tables, standard long hand multiplication and long division
algorithms etc.
You need the basics.

You can use either, at least in British English. I remember having the
exact same discussion a long time ago when were handed out some booklet at
school with "curriculums" written on the front...
