Dear all,

I'm looking for a way to 3d-print my povray image. It is indeed a very easy
picture, consisting only of spheres and cylinders. As far as I could find, there
is no direct converter from povray to the stl format (or any other format
suitable for 3d printing). I hoped I could somehow import my cylinders and
spheres with autocad, by I couldn't. The cylinders and spheres are generated
(i.e. the coordinates are written) by another program but I can surely re-write
them in an other format. So, is there a way to convert this easy set of objects
into a 3d-print suitable format?

Thank you all in advance

Claudio

Hi. You're not the only one asking for this, I too need and requested
such a feature. And many others, as well.

There is this guy from Brazil, who wrote a modeller that can READ,
EVALUATE (for errors) and IMPORT the scene files of POV-Ray, and display
them. His modeller is named "Bishop 3D". It's the only software known to
me that can import POV-Ray files. He would be probably the person who
could create an export function from POV-Ray to STL and other common 3D
formats. Google for him, and contact him. Yes, we need such a feature badly.

I was one of his beta testers.

Chances are he won't do it. After all, he announced he would make Bishop
3D open source due to lack of time to work on it.

And about a year ago asked on these forums for help to develope a new
version. But had no replies.

Maybe this is even better, as then his code is openly accessible, and
that could MAYBE help many others to create a conversion code. Worth the
thinking. I self wouldn't mind, to try getting a group together for that
purpose, though I don't use C++ but Delphi.

Sad for me to hear. Very sad. I wasn't aware of that. I would have
answered. Sad...

Under which name did he post? I want to search for his posting, and
answer it. maybe he still reacts. His modeller is worth it. WE NEED STL
and 3DS EXPORT. BADLY. (If it can be done.)

His last post was "Bishop3D is going GPL" posted by harnaut in
povray.news-submissions
