Actually, I believe it adds 33% and so to get the real size, subtract 25%.

The way uucode and similar codings work is to take 3 characters
(bytes). Write them in binary next to each other - you have 24 bits.
Partition into 4 (6 bits each). Get the character represented by each of
those 6 bits (some shifting may be necessary) to get 4 bytes.

So every set of 3 bytes becomes 4 bytes.

Which would be ... 25% increase? :-)

Plus extra newlines at the end of each line. Lines are usually 72 characters
long. (Thank you for 80-character punched cards, IBM!)

You have to add 1 to 3 in order to get 4, and 1 is a third of 3, ie. 33%.

D'oh! I shouldn't post before coffee. Nevermind.

How much are 25% of 3? I'd say something like 1.25, not 1.0 ;)

Give him a break, he hadn't had his coffee. :)

Anyway I tried uploading a 3Meg file and it failed. So there probably is another
setting somewhere that needs changing.

So maybe the 'officially posted' limit should be 6MB--so that we can upload a
5MB file?? ;-P Then, of course, we will all be wondering why a 6MB file won't
post!

Unfortunately there is a maze of settings to negotiate: PHP's post limits,
the web news system post limits (which are in several places), and the NNTP
server's limits. I thought I got them all, but obviously not.

I've just re-started the NNTP server in case it did not reload the config
when I told it to. Could someone please try the post again via the web. If
that doesn't work, please try posting a 2mb or so file via NNTP and see if
that works? At least if it does it will tell me the problem is on the NNTP
or HTTP side.
