There are certain types of mapping in Povray, planar, spherical, cylindrical
and even mapping for torus.
Is there any macro or something to map texture on box (like in other 3D
software, where you have box, sphere, plane, cylinder, etc.) ?

There's uv_mapping (like you get in mesh-based 3D applications) for box,
mesh, mesh2, sphere, lathe, sor, torus, parametric and bicubic_patch
objects.

That's right. But usually if object have a common box shape (let's say table
is combined from boxes generally), instead of unwrapping it to get UV
coordinates, I would use box mapping. Saves alot of time!
