Browsing in povray.binaries.images I have noticed that there are is a lot
of "I changed a small detail, how does it look now? [WIP]" type of posts.
Wouldn't a binary group that expires in the manner of povray.off-topic
better suited for gathering feedback, on such WIP's?

To be honest, I think most images are considered
WIP when uploaded. You post to get comments and
feedback and most of the time, you go back and make
some more changes for the next posting.
Those images entitled WIP will most probably have
some unfinished parts to it, like no textures, missing
detail etc. The author wants to imply that the image
will still have a long way to go, whereas other images
might be considered finished (for what they're supposed
to be).

Those are the images I was talking about. Currently there is no way to
upload an image, but not have it archived, part of the reason why I'm
rather not post a hundred and one WIP.

But I don't understand what's the problem with that?
Most of the time people are working on one image
or one system. Posting examples gets feedback on
how to improve things. Those famous Lurkers learn
something on the way and quietly evolve, until they
hit the newsgroups with some awesome pics... :-)
There's no use in posting thousands of WIPs of course,
but people rarely post every new succession of an image,
but only major break-throughs etc...

i think he's talking about some group that isn't archived where maybe all
the posts are deleted after a month to save on newsgroup server disk space.
and it would be this newsgroup where you might consider posting works in
progress.
