Posts like this have probably made the POV-Team consider releasing the betas
only to a closed group of beta testers.

Not if the person responsible for the web is not the same as
the one in charge of the beta generation.

No, a warning message would not be better, because people would use the 
program past its expiration. Quit whining about it. It's there for a 
reason, and it isn't going to change. (Unless everyone in the world 
suddenly becomes intelligent and thorough about following beta testing 
procedure, in which case the point would be moot...you wouldn't even be 
trying to run the program.)

It is stupid to hack the beta version. Nobody's forcing you to use it, 
and you can cause problems for yourself and others. Just use the final 
3.5 version instead. Do not use the 3.6 beta past its expiration unless 
you have a really good reason to. (you don't)

I think that if you make the beta(s) "expire-able" be sure that the
expiration date is longer enough to avoid this kind of stupid problem... so,
if the delay is over, nobody can de-bug it !

  Perhaps not, but this is not the first time he complains about the beta
version expiration and people explaining to him in simple terms why it
works like that.

  He seems to think that there's an official POV-Ray 3.6 release which he
should be able to use in any way he wants.
  However, this isn't true. There's no official POV-Ray 3.6 release.
There's a public beta version which is published so that people can
participate in testing and debugging it. If you want to test the beta
version, then you should accept certain limitations in its use. If you
don't like these limitations, then don't beta-test it but wait for the
official release. It's that simple.
  The official POV-Ray 3.6 will be released in the future.

  If you are beta-testing a program you can't expect it to be perfect.
Not even in its expiration date and its updates.

  If you don't like using an imperfect program (which in some cases you
can't even use at all), then the solution is simple: Don't beta-test.
Use the older official version instead.
