Hi Folks,

I've read in povray.bugreports,
message title: Crash in POV-Ray 3.5 Windows (number overflow??)

...that there is a 3.51 version of POV-Ray, is this correct?

If so, is it available for D/L.

Thanks.

POV-Ray v3.51 has not yet been released to the public. There is no public
release date available at this time.

Sorry Marc, it's only in the hands of the developers ATM. Still a WIP, I
couldn't tell you anything more. And, as you see from my other reply to your
other recent message, the documentation is in the same state.

Probably won't do any good to ask when it will be available, so please try
as much as possible to refrain from doing so (everyone). :-)

I won't be asking, I'm sure it'll be announced in due time, I just though
I had missed something important... like a new version :)

Merci

The Mac 3.5.1 RC2 is out... Is there a patch you can try for
unofficial builds? I clicked around absently but didn't find
anything.

I came up with a work around for my 3.5 bug question
(http://news.povray.org/povray.general/32820/) so I'm somewhat
less interested in 3.5.1 today.

Just curious about possibly finding a patch...

I'm not gonna ask when its available. But can I ask what new features we can
expect?

There are several fixes and changes, some additions. Would it be wise, or
unwise, to post my much-condensed list here? I couldn't make a judgement
call on this alone but I realize it might also help people know what to
expect instead of conjecture what the "bug-fix" 3.5.1 (sorry, it surely is
not sub-number 51! ;-)) will be about.

Or should we even be here talking of it at all??

Actually, I tried to make clear that there are no new features for very
obvious reasons. And the poster I replied to should really have understood
that from the version number.

> Or should we even be here talking of it at all??

No. There is no final list of changes until there is a final version. Once
there is, there will be an official list.

That's obvious for you, not for everybody. For those who are not familar with
numbering systems 3.5.1 means nothing but "new version" could mean variety of
things like bugfixes, better documentation structure, nice manual in PDF,
updated scene files, new installers on some platforms, new icons, rewritten
parts because of copyrights, updated 3rd party libraries, extension to 64bit
platforms, better function VM etc, etc. Whatever 3.5.1 is, it is somehow newer
version and there is no need to know numbering system to ask about it within
community, imo. I don't see any reason why average Windows user should know
numbering system like described at http://www.advogato.org/article/40.html -
so no need to overwhelm user.
