I don't think it's caused by posts to this newsgroup, I've never had any
spam to the account I use for these groups. My email isn't obfuscated
but it is a specific address for this group. No I don't have a spam
filter as I don't yet get spam (this is not a request btw :-) ).

(ok I don't post that often but I'd expect a spam bot to harvest *all*
the addresses)

Just a hint for those who want to use a specific address for posting not only
here but basically anywhere, and don't have the means of (easily) creating
multiple addresses:

Many mail hosts support what's known as 'plussed' email addresses (if they
use sendmail, it should work, if they don't I can't comment). A 'plussed'
email address is one with a '+' after the name part, followed by other text.
e.g, if your address is use### [at] examplecom, a 'plussed' version could be
username+bla### [at] examplecom. Email sent to that address should get delivered to
your normal mailbox, however you can match on the left-hand-side to perform
filtering and possibly even block it entirely (e.g. if it gets spammed)
provided your mail host provides the means (such as with server-side spam
filters).

A simple way of testing this is of course to just send yourself an email
using a plussed form of your address as the destination and see what happens.

I do this, and many site incorrectly believe that a plus sign cannot
appear on the LHS of an email address. Be prepared for it not to work
for many services.

Indeed. Does not work with my provider/mail host.
