To me the amount of crosslink is what will make or break the
usefulness of the site. It won't matter what the garbage-to-content
ratio is as long as people take the time to link it all together well,
with explanations of what they're linking to.

As it surely will, but even the most brief development of an idea
or common purpose will save a lot of wasted effort.

Here, there, wherever.

I don't think anyone here is looking for a 'conclusive document,' just
a bit of vision. The newsgroup is a great place for everyone to get
ideas out interactively.
Obviously after the Wiki gets rolling the newsgroups will become
redundant, but I hate to see it abandoned as a useful discussion
for initial setup and ideas.

It seems the community has things well in hand. I will act as a wiki
fairy, but will leave the major content to the brighter minds. I look
forward to seeing what this will evolve into.
Please don't hesitate to yell if there is an administrative task on the
server that needs attention.

Interesting... the Album cover looks almost Gilles Tranesque...

Sure, but in the DNS server do it as a CNAME record for
povray.tirnalong.com instead of an A record with the IP address. That
way one DNS edit will update them all if for some reason I need to move
the server to another IP address.

I have to admit that some of my earlier reservations are disappearing fast -
I guess I just find the thought of self-organising systems a bit bizarre
(and there's me giving the creationists a hard time over in OT).
A better editor would still be nice.... pretty please?

I don't know how to answer that. It is a wiki, so folks expect it to
act like a wiki, which means you format using text patterns. Can you
give a link to an editor that exemplifies what you are seeking? Do you
mean something like the forum posting editors, where it squirts smileys
bold/italic and other codes into your web forms??
Now if you want to modify how it displays, then that's a different
kettle of fish. This wiki uses XML and CSS so those can be modified
fairly easily.

Dare we think it? It'll drive up insurance rates you know.

I don't think so. It's not feasible to post WIP in a Wiki, right? Or
discussing algorithms and approaches, even though they may be covered within
the Wiki. Fast help (like p.newusers) also won't be a part of the Wiki, like
someone said: Wikis are slow and evolve over time.
I tend to think the Wiki will end up being a rather resourceful
Documentation, Tutorial Database and Pov-Scripting Guidance all in one
"readable document", an addition to the actual "confrontation" here on the
newsgroups.

Well, something like the editor used with wikipedia - hang on, I'll try to
find out what they use...

Yuk, no. More like a few simple icons for inserting links, headings and
tables, etc.

I'll RTFM and find out what's available.

Something like this?
http://www.kiddo.co.nz/wiki/wikieditor.html
This could be a starting point, but it needs a good bit of work, to be
made stable and work cross-browser.
