After seeing a scan of a one-off sample of the re-manufactured keyring, I was
still unhappy with the clarity of the small 'P' on the back. While it was better,
it wasn't as good as I'd like.

It was explained to me that there was a limit of the precision of such things
due to the fact that it is a raised section with fine detail (meaning that in
the die, it is a lowered section with fine detail).

The problem being that the die strikes the metal with about 90 tons of pressure,
and anything with detail that fine risks some 'blurring'.

Rather than have some lack of detail, I have asked them to remove the little 'P'
from the back entirely. I don't think this is a major problem since the front of
the keyring has a larger 'P' anyhow.

Works for me. Hmmm.... the ones with the defective P on the back will become
collecters items in and of themselves..... since I ordered 2 can I get one
of each?

whatever. quality schmality, it's got the POV logo on it! lemme
at it! ;o)

Just placed my order. And looking at the back detail I can see
where the crescent tapers off finely, is that the problem place?

The back will look GREAT still without it- maybe even less busy.

Let us know when they ship!

So it looks like Lutz should raise his prices!

A limited version of the keyring would be quite valuable... I wonder if
people who have already ordered the first version would like to get it
anyways?-)

Quite valuable in what sense? It's not as though it's a limited or rare
version of a common item like a stamp or a coin; it's a rare version of an
item that is itself likely to be quite rare. Any value it has is likely to
be mostly sentimental and/or confined to the (relatively) small community
of people who know what POV-Ray is and know that the "real" keychains don't
have the small logo on the back.

Of course, that shouldn't stop those who've already received the ones with
the small logos from trying to make a quick buck off a sucker^Wfellow
inhabitant of these newsgroups.

Like Ken, I'd actually like to have one of those that are flawed, simply
because I'm a bit of a collector and that sort of thing appeals to me.

I wouldn't do that :-) Well, for $50 I might. No one actually got
delivery of the first ones, did they?
Oh-oh. Now I fear Mr. Cason is going to ask for an additional $5 for the
rare kind. ;-)

At least one person, and possibly more, got the original ones through Lutz.
