You are aware that software patents are one of the purest forms of evil,
right?

Hi Ron,

Hehe.. That made me smile.. It was a joke from my side. I have no patent in
mind, just maybe a dream of "being known" for having done something useful
among some POV people.. My program should be both freeware and open source..
The rest of what I wrote was honest however.

No, its not anything like the software you are developing. And, um, mine's
a secret too. ;-)

Yes - it uses little mesh2 objects to create a mosiac image of the secret
source code from Hugo's secret software. :-)

Darn! I meant to keep that a secret! Don't tell anyone, okay?

I personally suspect you are both writing the same program, not
noticing the extra lines that appear between your own editing
sessions.

Ooops. wrong program. The mosaic was just one I was maintaining for someone.

My program is YAMC

And also useless. Patenting your algorithm makes sure that it will never
be popular, it will never be developed further and that it will be forgotten
for tens of years (only after the patent expires, if the algorithm is still
relevant, it *might* have some success).
This is exactly what happened with, for example, fractal compression of
images. How many programs do you know that support encoding? Or even decoding?
How much has it evolved since the idea was discovered?
In contrast, think about PNG. No patents, huge popularity boom.

I knew that! No, it's not really like yours - in fact I'm not sure if my
software really knows what it wants to be when it grows up. Anyway, I hope
you're making good progress with YAMC. It looks pretty cool.

SPOON!!!

[SNIP]

> SPOON!!!

Two things for you and Hugo to ponder:

1) If you write it in Java and use Java3D, then the exact same binary will work
on Windows (with either Direct3D or OpenGL), Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X (soon),
Irix, and many others

2) If you code in C/C++ with OpenGL and GLUT then you can re-compile your same
sources to make a separate binary for Windows (OpenGL), Mac OS X, Irix, Solaris
and others.

The more, the merrier.
