Only if you are running out of memory with your scenes.
If not, the CPU speed will help more.

It's not like povray looked and said "hey, there's more memory available
now! Woohoo!!! I'll use the extra memory to get more speed."

Also, megahertz aren't going to help the CPU as mush as gigaflops.

I would personally go for the latter - because if you feel the need to
upgrade, you can slot in a 128mb DIMM for about 60 quid now ($40?), while
upgrading from a 866Mhz to 1Ghz, would involve selling and re-buying (of
which P3's have been known to scarce when required). So I would go for the
1ghz, dream machine with the option of easy upgrading later. In terms of
POVRay performance I don't think there'd be much between them, but isn't
more RAM only especially useful with larger scenes?

About the only time I need more than 128 megs of ram is when I am
using recursive functions such as tree generating programs or other
memory intensive fractal type objects. Photons can also chew up
memory but again 128 is, for the average user, more than adequate.
I would say that for greater than 90% of POV-Ray users 128 megs
is enough. If you think that someday you will become a power user
of the program who is going to push the envelope you will want to
have at least another 128 megs of RAM at your disposal. I have 256
megs right now and will be upgrading soon to 512 megs but I consider
myself a power user rather than the average user of the program
and feel I can justify the added expense of more memory for my
system based on my use of the program.

Why upgrade the CPU? Matt says to just start measuring it in Hz instead...

When did I say Hertz in this context?

	Another lie?

	Why is lying necessary?

I agree completely!

Accusing other people about things that you frequently do yourself
is very childish.

No, only the first lie.

Obviously it was not serious.

i'd go with the faster processor becuase RAM is always relitivly cheap
to upgrade.
