No idea :(
Maybe they exceeded their monthly bandwidth allotment and will be
back up after the first of the month ?
I have the original sPatch archive if you need it...

maybe you should post it to p.b.u, or maybe see about getting the site
mirrored on povray.org, afterall, it is one of the best povray tools ever,
and unfortunatly development seems to have died off a long time ago.
I have contacted the author a few times enquiring about its status, and get
the impression that he is up to his eyeballs with life, and has neither the
time or motivation to continue its development, which is a great shame.
maybe if we can get the right team together, can come to an agreement with
the author we can get this stunning peice of work back into main stream
development.

I think this is a great idea. Maybe the TAG team can work this out.
Arrange something with Mike Clifton and find some keen programmers to evolve
sPatch into something even larger than life.
*puppy eyes* Pretty please :)

It has been reported several times, that Mike Clifton doesn't own the
copyright to all the code in sPatch (some parts belong to the company he
works for, I think) and thus can not open up sPatch's source.
Which kind of kills that idea...

I wonder if that's why it's not available anymore?

I might, with the permission of Mike and the POV-Team, get the
archive posted at the povray.org ftp site but as was already
mentioned the chances of getting a development group working
on the program is not possible. It is not open source and
there are legal reasons why it will not become so.
There is a Japanese patch modeller in the works with similar
functionality that is showing promise and it is in active
developement. Hopefully they will fill in the gap left by
the lack of developement of sPatch.

You mean Hamapatch?
It's quite nice from the limited amount I've done with it. And it
interfaces directly with POV to render te object you're working on (which
was a bit of a shock the first time I came across it)
It has other nice features too.
The URL is : http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Ginza/6625/soft10.html
Bye for now,
Jamie.
(Reeling at the shock of providing a URL to link guru and all round good-
guy Uncle Ken :)
