No no no. Not XEmacs (AKA 'Lucid Emacs'), use the real emacs. 'GNU Emacs' AKA
'FSF Emacs'
:-)

It is also there for Windows in addition to Linux.

and

No ALT_GR key here and the ]-key is in the "hook" of the ENTER
key.

Well, that depends on your country keyboard layout. In France, the ] key
is just on the right of the 0 key.

: With Linux, an editor running under X does exactly that trick : Nedit.

Emacs has always had this feature, too.

Btw, you can record macros in the codemax editor. They may help you for
the shortcut.

You don't need macro's. You can change the complete key mapping,
also for functions that allready have a short-cut assigned. You
can also assign more than one short-cut to a function. Editor,
CodeMax properties, keyboard.

I always wondered what ALT GR was for. UK, and I believe US, keyboards
have single keypresses for '[' and ']'. On my keyboard they're between the
'P' and Enter keys.

French keyboards have more caracters (including accentuated letters for
example) with the same number of keys. To allow this some keys (the
number row for example) can make 3 different caracters: one on their
own, one with the SHIFT key, and one with the ALT-GR key (which replaces
the right ALT key of the qwerty keyboard)

In the finnish keyboard all these characters have to be accessed through

):5;i&&_>1;printf("%s",_-70?_&1?"[]":" ":(_=0,"\n")),_/=2);} /*- Warp -*/
