I still occasionally play Doom II, and to me it's more fun than Quake. At least
in single player mode.

IMO they haven't gotten that much better since. Just a lot more eye candy.
While I'm not from the pong generation, some of the oldies from XT and 286 are
still my all time favourites. Pong ain't bad, either. It's damn addictive, esp.
in multiplayer mode :)

The framerate sucks, though. We need more power...
And you can create your own worlds (levels) in Quake et al.
Can be quite fun sometimes.

but one of these days it'll bankrupt me.

Hmmm. Maybe I want to inspire you all to work on methods of implementing the
same functionality using real-time raytracing ... ?

[Seriously, there's no doubt whatsoever in my mind that this will happen. It's
just a matter of when.]

Hmm... I wonder if the core of POV-Ray could be written to a FPGA using
Viva... now there's an idea... :)

I understand it will be a major topic of discussion again the year at
Siggraph. There is some mention of it by Eric Haines in his most recent
news letter.

The Link Master has done it again :)

Thanks Ken, it was very interesting reading... *I'll be planning a break in
to the chip manufacturing lab at Griffith uni next time I'm in Brisbane...

Hey! Made a quick search at Altavista for a raytracing chip. The first link
displayed was "Ken Tyler's bookmarks" :)
