Anyone in-the-know about Super Patch (povray.exe) and Photon Patch
(uvpov.exe) working with the 3.1e (Windows) version?
I've tried various ways; running in separate folders along with the
editor DLLs from version 3.1d or 3.1a, and nothing seems to work.
Is there a trick to this? Or am I doing this all in vain...?
Curious, since I had figured these were stand-alone executables so long
as they had their corresponding DLL files.
It's as if the 3.1e install does something in the registry which can
affect every other povray executable (despite the different names too).
I couldn't even run the 3.1d original pvengine.exe from another location
where it was backed up to.

POVWIN finds its editor DLL via the registry. I think I'll have to release a
patched version that does it another way, given the number of people who want
to run the 3.1d version as well.

Drat! err, I mean, great!
I just posted at povray.windows a batch file way to do it. Goes well
too, for me at least.

Why anyone would want to use 3.1d? I don't understand.

Please try downloading
http://www.povray.org/temp/pve31up.exe
and install that. It's a new way of installing the update that I want tested
(other users please try it as well). It sets the 3.1e variable in the registry
(textureview wants this).
In addition, however, the exe included (3.1e.watcom.win32.r1) will load
cmedit.dll from the current directory if it is found there ; otherwise it loads
it from the path shown in the directory.
Let me know if both of these work for you.

As I posted in the povray.windows ng it didn't go right, for me anyway.
Will need to sign-off and restart Windows to be positive of it though.
Will reply as to success or failure in a while.

Failed, sorry to say.
I restarted Windows and still editor error occurs after the pve31up
install.
I looked in the Windows Registry and under the POV-Ray key is a Windows
key by itself which says VersionNo="3.1d" in it, only such thing there
besides all the 3.1e stuff.

See my reply in .windows. It appears to me that you're expecting the patched
versions to act differently after installing a new official EXE. This cannot,
of course, happen. The new EXE only affects the official version.
