Hello

I would like to know if it is possible to render scenes containing
mathematical equations
such as ,let s say sqrt(x)=1.Instead of writing sqrt I want to use the
following symbol:

. ........... .
    . .
         .

I have tried to copy the sign from other documents (WORD) paste it on
pov's editor and render it as a text object but it did not work.
Thanks
nico

Your pretty much stuck with the current language I'm afraid to say.
It's much easier for the programmers to keep the language consistant
using a text based only language than it is to start introducing a
mix of symbols and text. Most people don't have the ability to enter
the non standard keyboard symbols any way and as you have said you were
forced to copy and paste it into the editor to even try it.

No Ken, I think he means as a text object... not in the scene description
language...

In that case you'll have to use a symbols font... a good one is aptly named
"Symbols". Entering a normal letter like "d" for instance will give you the
delta symbol...

The Square-root symbol is character 214.

You mean you want to make a 3D text object of the root sign? I don't think
this can be done, this is not a font character (in Word, I believe, it's a
MS Equation symbol). You have to model the sign manually. Shouldn't be too
difficult, though.

don't forget that he'll need the unicode patch(I don't know where it is) to use
high ascii in the text object.

You might also try to create a custom font with the adequate
symbols, taken from other fonts. It will avoid you the
need for unicode patch. Many utilities do that.
(if you have CorelDraw 3 (or up), it's possible)

Cheers,
Fabien.
