Hi,
Can anyone help me find some looping motion capture data for the human walk?
I'll explain what I'm trying to do.
I want to declare an object as a central blob surrounded by a number of randomly
orbiting
blobs.
I then want to construct a human figure out of many of these objects, all interacting
with
one another as the figure walks.
I'm not sure whether I'm actually up to the task of doing this, or quite how to go
about
it, but it'll be fun trying.

  Moray just recently released a new version that now includes
inverse kinematics. This function is designed for interactive
jointed parts movement. Well worth looking into for the
animation capabilities it has to offer. This is a high end feature
many of the big boys don't even offer yet.

Well, the mid-range boys anyway ;-)

On the topic of motion capture though, there are some sites around that let
you download human motion capture data of people walking, runnning, kicking,
jumping etc.  Most of them are in .bip (Biped) format, but if you could
write an extractor, it would be really cool to use with POV-Ray.
Unfortunately, I don't know any places which have the file format listed...

Believe me Lance, I can write my own name without too much trouble, but software? I
wouldn't know where to start ;)

This may be referenced on one of the above pages, I'm not sure, but
don't forget about the founding father of motion capture, Eadweard
Muybridge.  He was doing it a century and more ago.  There is an
incredible page full of reconstructions of his (pre-Edison) movies of
people walking, crawling, high jumping, climbing stairs and other things
at http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/anima/chronoph/ .  Take time to read
about his unusual life as well.
