This may be referenced on one of the above pages, I'm not sure, but
don't forget about the founding father of motion capture, Eadweard
Muybridge. He was doing it a century and more ago. There is an
incredible page full of reconstructions of his (pre-Edison) movies of
people walking, crawling, high jumping, climbing stairs and other things
at http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/anima/chronoph/ . Take time to read
about his unusual life as well.
