Just out of curiosity, what's the largest image anyone has ever rendered
with POV-Ray? (Official or tinkered-with versions)

I recently had to work (yes, work) with 10000 x 10000 images (yes, output
file three hundred megabytes). And if you are interested in that, one of
the first lines of the scene is global_settings { max_trace_level 250 }.

Sometimes you're happy you have PVMPOV on a 8x600 MHz Alpha.

I wish I had it for myself... Too bad it's at work.

(By the way, I forgot to mention... Max Level: 250/250, and not in
marginal portions of the image, rather on half of it. That's what happens
when you simulate multiple reflections...)

Just to give me an idea about the speed of this monster, how long would it take
to render skyvase on it? Realtime? ;)

  My Official Skybench:

$ pvmpov -d -f -i/usr/local/lib/povray3/povscn/level2/skyvase.pov \
         -w640 -h480 +a0.3 -q9

completes in approximately 14 seconds.

And I'm leaving it tomorrow... <sigh> <sigh> <sob>

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to render an animation on the world
largest Linux cluster. Up to 432 Pentium class machines were working on
my POV-Ray scenes. That was fun!

(See also http://www.uni-paderborn.de/cs/heiss/linux/cluster/

A friend of mine once rendered one of my images for printing on a 600DPI
color laser full-sized A4 sheet. I don't remember the resolution (can
anyone calculate it?) but it sure was HUGE!
It took only a couple of hours to render on his Pentium II... (5 hours in
my 486 66MHz at 640x480). Uh!

It should be about 4960 x 7015
