Hi everyone,

Ok, I am having a hard time making a good water texture that looks
realistic. I'm using moray, but that doesn't make much of a difference.
Anyway, I need anything you have on water textures for all applications
from oceans to blobs. And what else do I need for a good effect in the
way of lighting and other textures?

           Thanks

Take a look at Mike's page. In the Povray section is an excellent
tutorial on creating skies. While not exactly a tutorial on water he has
some excellent examples used for reflecting the sky and as such the
two topics overlap.

The URL is:

I've been thinking of creating a realistic water model as my next
project (well, as realistic as POV and the Megapatch will allow). If
that finds any measure of success, I'll be sure to let everyone in on
it.. although I can't help wondering if someone's already attempted this
and failed. :/

I have: http://www.fmi.uni-konstanz.de/~willhalm/graphics/tracegallery/

Perhaps I should rework it using angle depending reflection. The structure
of the surface is a normal map which is created by adding several versions
of a crackle pattern. I have modified POV-Ray to allow the addition of
normals (instead of averaging them). Furthermore, I tweaked the crackle
pattern such as Ron did in the megapatch.
