Try this URL ...

  http://www.povray.org/cgi-bin/dnewsweb?cmd=listall&group=povray

This is strictly TEST ONLY. It hasn't been customised (customized:) for
povray.org yet. That comes later. I just want to know if it works for everyone.
If you try it and it's not there, it's probably been removed for bug fixes or
something.

BTW you can't post via it. Only read. But it does decode images inline :)

It worked fine for me with one exception. I went to the
binaries images group and clicked the last image on the
list. The text portion loaded fine but the image appeared
as a broken link. I then tried four more images and they
loaded and displayed without a problem. A quick test
of a couple of other areas also worked without trouble
of any kind.

Is this to give access to people who are stuck behind
fire walls ?

It works for me. I have not browsed extensively, but the URL is valid and
I was able to see an image from povray.binaries.images.

If I may suggest something... I think the reason you're doing this is to
allow people to read the povray.* newsgroups without necessarily having
access to the news server. There is also a way to enable people to post in
these groups, it's called a mail-to-news gateway. There might be several
versions of it, but a friend of mine wrote one that works pretty well in
our school (for relaying mailing-lists, but it can be used without them).
You'll find it at <URL:http://www.mygale.org/~tquinot/mail2news.en.html>.

  If that may help...

Roland.

Works fine for me :) although I also found a broken graphic link. It was in
the most recent post to the povray.binaries.images group, which says it was
posted 30 minutes ago (I think)... the other few I checked were all good
(using Netscape Communicator 4.06 for MacOS PPC).

Good idea, BTW. I hope it makes it through the testing.

Works fine for me (IE 4.0 and Communicator 4.06). Great idea! :-)

It works on my Mac PPC. I also could not see the latest image, tho.

Is there any way to provide feedback for suggestions or is this an "as is" site?

1- URL works ok, but an individual article comes up very slow, (in my
tests).

2- I understand that the page with the latest articles in a group comes up,
but that articles are sorted on one page from old to new. This is somewhat
confusing

3- Are you planning a search facility?

Anyway, great idea.

Frans.

Very nice idea, and works well.

Simple, effective.
