I have a friend who has a slow machine, so he can't realistically use 3d
graphics software -- not even wireframe cad programs. He, luckily,
prefers 2d work due to his 2d drafting background. However, I have been
unsuccessful in finding any really good freeware for 2d design. I
worked with an old version of EasyCad several years ago, and loved it
for 2d work. Does anyone know where I could find a similar
user-friendly program for free? It really only needs the basic drawing
functions: line, curve, circle, snap to grid/end/center/mid, and color
would be nice.

Consult the following directions:

http://pw1.netcom.com/~apperson/index.html CadStd. 2D Cad. Freeware.
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/rleboite/minos.htm Minos. 3D Cad. Freeware.
http://www.dcad.com/ DeltaCad. 2D Cad. Shareware. Easy learning. It is my
favorite.

I hope that this information is to him useful.

I just read the server again, I'm not sure you'll see this or not, but
if you or he runs linux, there is a package called "brlcad" that he may
want to check out. It may need heavier sys requirements than what he
has, but from what I hear it is about autocad level in quality. You can
download it for free if you live in the US and agree not to export it.
It is made by the US army.
