I just read the server again, I'm not sure you'll see this or not, but
if you or he runs linux, there is a package called "brlcad" that he may
want to check out. It may need heavier sys requirements than what he
has, but from what I hear it is about autocad level in quality. You can
download it for free if you live in the US and agree not to export it.
It is made by the US army.
