Ok, this is kind of an odd question, but here it goes.......
When I first found out about POV, I downloaded version 3.1 and it worked

fine. However, I'm still pretty new to POV and still trying to figure
it out, and I noticed that most scene files still use the older version
3.0x or 2.2 syntax, so I got version 3.02 and installed it. The problem

is that when I go to render something, I get a general protection fault
invalid stack fault thing -- you know -- one of those really annoying
errors that shuts down the program you're running. I'm just wondering if

anyone out there has any suggestions, or may know what the problem is.

Other important stuff:
I'm running POV 3.02 for Win95 on a P-II 300Mhz system
POV 3.1 runs and renders fine
POV 3.02 will run, but won't render
I installed the different versions of POV in different directories.

Interesting.
I have both installed too, 3.1 came after is only difference and I've been
jumping back and forth between them ever since I installed P-R 3.1.
The following is an excerpt from Changes.txt (at end of file) located in the
main POV-Ray 3.1 folder and might be the answer(?) to your problem.
------------------
o The registry keys now work this way -

    HKLM\
      Software\
        POV-Ray\

          Windows\
Home -> Points at either v3.0x or v3.1.

          CurrentVersion\
            Windows\
Home -> Path of current version always
              VersionNo   -> Current version number

          v3.0\
            Windows\
Home -> Points at path of v3.0x if it exists

          v3.1\
            Windows\
Home -> Points at path of v3.1

          v3.x\
            Windows\
Home -> Points at path of a hypothetical v3.x

If there was no old version on the users computer, the old Windows value

points to the new version of POVWIN. If there was an old version, the
user
will be asked upon installation if they want to have it updated to point
to
    the new one.
---------------------
In other words, looks like you have to uninstall 3.1 and 3.02 then install
3.02 then 3.1...
I know, not great but should fix it, unless of course somebody else has a
better idea?

Make sure you trash all the registry entries when you do that, there is
no guarentee they are all erased (my friend running 98 had the same
problem I tried to uninstall them both and install 3.02 and it didn't
make any difference. I didn't want to spend the time that evening to do
it again and check the registry. Especially since it isn't my
computer.)
