A new 300 MHz PC can be as cheap as $800.00.
Could your friend afford this, or borrow an old 120 MHz Pentium clunker?

One of the marvelous things about POV-Ray, I've often thought but never
said, is that it could be easily used by Stephen Hawkings! Its textual
basis enables people with limited motor skills (or no drawing ability)
to be great artists. I really hate mouse-intensive software!

To see why that might be, go to POV-Ray Team Coordinator Chris Young's

If I recall correctly Pov v2.2 was compiled for 386 computers
and above. Was this also true for the Pov v1.0 version ?
I have the Pov v1.0 on a CD around here somewhere but before
I bother locating it and then emailing it I would like to make sure
it will run on a 286 computer.

POV 1 used to run on an XT. At least I think it did because I first tried POV
when all I had was an XT. That probably explains why I never did much with it
the next couple of years, because it took ages to render a simple 320x200-image.
I tried one, waited a couple of hours, but when it wasn't even halfway finished
I decided this was not for me. At the moment I'm so definitely hooked that I
bought an extra computer and an additional 128Mb of RAM for rendering.

When I first read that, I thought you were going to say "...because that's how long
that darn picture took to render!" :)
