Hello,

I have written a small, merciless utility which will convert Poser 3.0
Objects into
POV-Ray mesh source. So far, I have only tried it with the UV mapping
version of
POV-Ray and, offhand, don't think it works with standard POV. I can
change that rather easily if anyone needs it. The program is currently
less than what would be considered an alpha version (call it a
late-night hack), so consider yourself warned! It'll be cleaned up
someday. It's about 42K in size.

Thanks,
Warren

Hello
Thanks for sharing. I downloaded the utility and it works... but there is
one big problem (sorry if it's silly). How do I adapt the original Poser
maps to Nathan Kopp's uv mapping ??? I translated the original TIF files to
PNG, but the final mapping is all wrong. Any clue ?

Hi,

try to export as 3ds and use Win3DS2POV.
It is a full 3ds to pov convertor including uv mapping and image conversion.
You could find it at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/thbaier

Sorry, it doesn't seem to recognise 3DS files from Poser. No error message, but
the inc file is empty (and no texture is generated) :

/*
 E:\temp\f1.3ds
Generated by 3ds2pov by Thomas Baier (thb### [at] ibmnet)
*/
#debug concat("Clock:",str(clock,5,2),"\n")
#debug "Parsing Inc started ...\n"
#debug "Parsing Inc finished\n"

That's all.

No explanation from the log :
Parsing E:\temp\f1.3ds ...
General animation settings:
  Length: 30
Missing scene camera
Adding Default Camera ...
Missing scene lights
Adding default lights
Parsing E:\temp\f1.3ds finished

There may be something in the way Poser creates 3DS files.
Looks like I'm doomed as far as Poser is concerned. I should be a POV snob and
write all them smooth_triangles by hand.
