Nice job so far... It's quite good as a finished piece already. I think
the simplicity of the scene is actually a plus.
The raindrops on the window are very convincing, although trails where
the water is running down the window don't look right. It's as if the
IOR is too high, or maybe it's because the water trails are too thick.
The lighting in the sky is great and the outside details are really
well-done.
Looks like the kind of day where you'd expect to see an old man leading
a couple giraffes down the road muttering about not knowing what the
heck a cubit is...

Thanks, I agree about the drops, they are created using a blob and in my tests
so far if I make them thinner the blob dissapears. I am going to work on this
some more and may remove some of them if I cannot fix it.
The sky was where this image started, I was trying different textures on a
sky_sphere and came up with something that looked like the sun trying to break
through a cloudy/rainy sky, I liked it so much I decided I needed to use it in a
scene.
Not sure what you mean about the giraffes, looks like a normal summer day in the
UK to me ;-)

The about the old man and the giraffes was probably before your time.
Mine too for that matter. But I understand they suffered quite the
storm. People are still looking for their boat today though. =)

Very nice and it has a real rainy feel. Would be nice to see the trails affected
by the wind (at least, if thats a stormy sea i see outside the window)
Btw, can't you just scale down your blob to make it thinner? Or is that newbe
thinking?

Good point about the wind affecting the trails, I had just made this random but
will re-visit this now.
I have tried scaling (not put that much effort in so far though) and the blobs
seem to just disappear when I make them thinner. I will find the thinnest
setting I can get away with and keep them visible. Of course it could be because
I am scaling each component rather than the whole blob which would probably make
a difference...

Yes, currently my trails are all one thickness but they should get thicker as
they get nearer the droplet, I need to put some more thought into how I create
these.

I think scaling the whole blob will do the trick. What you also can do I
guess, is cut off the part of the blob lying against the pane, in a
difference or intersection. Your blob becomes thinner too that way and you
simulate the *stickyness* of the water drop on the glass surface.
