Something I've been working on for a wallpaper.
The puck is a mesh. The knurl on the outside ring was a nightmare. I tried using
CSG, but the rendering ground to a halt. I resorted to using a mesh imported
from an outside program. Even so, the mesh is a 290MB include file due to all
of the fine details.
The interior logo is a differenced heightfield. Some differenced bubbles as well
for effect.

I think you have misunderstood something. Pucks are used to play ice
hockey, but they are not made of ice themselves. ;)
Just kidding. The image looks great.

The only problem I see is that there appears to be some odd logo on the top of
it...

Cool subliminal effect, hockey as in 'ice' hockey.
The town I was born in, Hamilton ON, used to have a Junior A team, the
Hamilton Red Wings, which back in the days of the six team NHL, were
part of the Detroit Red Wings farm system.

Nice one.
Should be easy to make some with other clubs logos on them. Altough I'm not a
fan, my club is the Canadians. (the last match I watched, was the last time they
won the Stanley Cup)

That is a killer texture on the puck, would you mind posting the source?
Very realistic image, nice job man!

Thanks, but I can't take credit for that one. The texture is a modification of
Robert W. McGregor's Frozen Fire IRTC entry texture. His source is available at
IRTC.org.
