Hmm, too high to reach by stretching an arm or jumping. A person could
however, run, jump against the wall, and possibly attain a greater
height for grabbing the rim of the exit hole. Of course, pulling oneself
up and out is another challenge :)

This is very good. You need to make a suggestion of dimensions however. The
sign is one, but it could also be fixed near the floor. Some object like a
table or a chair would give the sheer hopelesness of the escape dream.

Thanks! Yeah, a chair is a good idea. I struggled with creating the sense of
scale--I didn't want to make the sign too small because I wanted it to be a
focal point.

I immediately assumed the sign was just above head height, which fixed the
size of the room for me. Anyway, the wall looks very crumbly, would be easy
enough to dig out some toe-shaped holes and climb up the wall, then pull
yourself up through the hole. For more of a challenge, try moving the hole
away from the side wall, or put something there to prevent people climbing
up the wall or getting through the hole.

If you concrete textures are not image maps, I would love to see the code.

From the point of view of somebody in there... It's already hard
enough! Don't make it harder!

They are mostly image maps, but I find that for normals,

normal { granite -.2 poly_wave 4 } //(and scaled appropriately)

works quite well for concrete.

A ball and chain? Bones? ;-)

The extreme lights and darks are messing up the antialiasing a bit,
which is a shame. Otherwise, this is almost perfect from a technical
perspective. :-)

Something to give a stronger sense of scale would be nice, though.

I like it!

But ... why do they install the sign at the floor? :-)
This way it's a somewhat "easterish" image: The way out of prison is clearly
visible - dare to go?

I was just looking at some optical illusions - seems that changed my way to
look at your image.

Greetings,

Marc-Hendrik
