Here is a try for a well in the water for bringing soil. Usually, it is the
contrary :)

Nice - I like the realistic yet odd scene.

To nitpick although the rope texture looks good on the beam it doesn't
quite work (as well as the rest of the textures) with the rope connected
to the bucket.

The soil may be too round - it almost looks like one of those cactii in
a pot...

I could then comment on the lack of mortar where the metal frame of the
mechanism joins the wall but that would be churlish.

The aged beam, cogs and bucket are particularly nice.

Thanks for your comments.

I was experimenting some features like non-trivial GSC and textures for the
gear, Hormann's iso-wood for the axis, isosurfaces for the well and the
soil in the bucket, interior for the water etc ...

I like a lot the well and the bucket.
Because of the intersection of water surface and wall, it seems laid on the
water and not immersed into the water.
Nice work!

A very nice, simple idea, well (!) executed. It has a nice, clear
expression. I don't mind so much the small inconcistencies the others have
mentioned, but I wonder if the composition could have been differerent:
move the well a little to the right and add a second element, maybe a
seagull on the water, or even a mouse on some driftwood, to the left. That
would bring some more dynamics to the image, give it even more of a story.
Also, take the camera a little lower to bring some of the mechanism above
the horizon, to break the line.

The well actually IS immersed: the water is an isosurface with interior. The
brown color at the bottom of the image shows the brownish bottom of the
water (clear and darker stripes). Maybe the surface a too reflective and
hides this effect. I'll dig this later: busy on IRTC right now!!

   Cheers.

I think you could reinforce the idea, by having another inverted object in
the distance. I'm being a bit obvious, but perhaps a "flying" submarine
might be the thing.

How about a herd of grazing cattle standing on the water nearby?

My main comment would be that the water didn't look like water at first
glance. Once I'd registered it, it looked OK though. I think it could be
bluer, with less reflectivity at the higher angle (in the foreground).

The well and bucket modelling is excellent!

Mike Williams' rope macros would be useful in perfecting the line. The well
might benefit from construction with individual brick objects at this
proximity; the brick texture is too obviously procedural.

Looks good though... :)

I second that

I think the top ring of the stone curb is wrongly built. It should show
radial seams with stones the full height of the ring

Excellent idea anyway, it gives me inspiration for another 'well' go...
