I've been rather lax recently, finally got back to this.
Thanks to Giles Tran for suggesting the light group to bring
out the normal on the tree trunk.
I must again point out that the furthest backdrop of trees beyond
the bushes on the far bank and reflected in the lake *is* a
photo, I'll get around to replacing that soon hopefully.
I reckon there's still quite a lot wrong with this pic, but it's
been a while since I last posted. At the moment I'm trying for
good anti-aliasing for the reflections and AM2 helps a lot, but
not quite enough.

I like the concrete texture.

Assuming the hanging branches are rendered the photo integrates well
with the scene and does not comprise a major element. The more
bothersome thing for me is that water texture. It gives a very
attractive result visually but does not correspond to any water surface
that I recognize.

Yes, the reflection is as bright as, if not brighter than, the
background. Seems like it should be darker, and the water should have
some color. Most ponds like that I've seen have a green color that gets
darker depending on the angle.
But everything else looks great! Textures & lighting are excellent!

Excellent. The foreground leaves and object are great. There is a cone
shaped subtraction in the left-hand leg. Is this intended? Looks out of
place.

It is deliberate, a first attempt at a "chip" out of the leg, but I agree
it's not good. I want to come up with a general way of adding random
imperfections to the lantern, probably some combination of trace() and
blob subtraction.

The overhang is rendered (the leaves use image maps however) it's only
the very furthest backdrop behind the bushes on the far bank that is
a photo. Thanks for pointing out the water, I'll see what I can do.

Thanks! I'll take another shot at the water.

I'm not sure, after all it's not supposed to be
concrete :-). It's slightly too plain and smooth, I might
add a shadowless light group to get more
surface texture, also it needs more in the way of algae
or lichen discolouring it. I'm happier with the nearby
rock to be honest. Still a WIP.
