Playing around with scattering media.

A sunset, that was one of the first things I did with Pov
(http://www.hoogi.de/lutz-peter/render/sunset.html).
Time to make a better one :-)

Unfortunalty I wasn't able to make the blue sky with media (it didn't
behave well together with the second, orange media-layer), so I faked it
with a sky_sphere.

rendered relatively quickly, 15min on AMD 500 Mhz

I love the colours in this. I also think it'd look better without the sun,
and maybe a silvery moon that's much higher up.

Reminds me a bit of the opening credits to "Arena".

I love that glowing effect you have right at the horizon. This scene has a
very alien feeling to me. I think it has to do with the very unearth like
atmosphere, the stars light doesn't seem to be scattered very much at all,
perhaps a very thin atmosphere?

This comes from a thin (10m) media layer above the water.

You're right, the thin-athmosphere effect comes from a high eccentricity
value (.85). Lower values looked more natural, but less interesting.

Beautiful! Absolutely. Simple, yet beautiful. It's somewhat cool in
appearance; like -10 deg. C in the air ... just the feeling. Any chance for
source? :P

Simen.

Which sphere is your water? I'm horrible at texturing yet, and I'm
having a hard time figuring out which is which based solely on scaling.

I should have added some comments...

The water is the first one after the light_source. That with reflection,
ior 1.3 and absorbing media.
