Cool. I think the edges of puzzle pieces tend to be more visible. In 
reality, the jigsaw winds up making the edges a bit beveled. While 
that's probably excessive to model (in terms of render time), perhaps 
some other mild distinction could work, such as setting the pieces ever 
so slightly apart.

I guess it's not so noticable in the image, but that's kinda what I did.  I scaled
each piece down
just a tad to give it a slight gap.  The pieces are prisms using bezier curve edges. 
I couldn't
figure out a way to make a bevel on a prism so I did the scaling thing instead.
