The fronds were modelled in Anim8or. I think it has most of the capabilities of
Wings3d, and seems even more intuitive. Exported as 3ds file from the modeller,
and converted to POV SDL by PoseRay.

Kinda nice, and yet not quite there.
The trees are too prominent in the scene, and too tight of a shot.
I don't know that much about palms, but I thought most bearing fruit were quite
a bit taller than these.

Your trees looks a lot to fat. That kind of trees are usualy quite slenrers, and
often have surved trunks, specialy those whose base are angled.

Thanks, Leef me and Alain. Here's another try at the scene.
It took a while to change. It's sometimes difficult to predict the effect of
transformations on imported meshes.

Hope I'm not being too critical.
The tree needs to much taller in comparison to its thickness. There are some
palms that are short and thick, but they are in areas of limited water. Since
you scene is island-like, there would be more rainfall and taller trees, before
they produce fruit. Here are two example pictures, but perhaps you are not
trying to achieve this level of effect.

The bend that you introduced is also unnatural. If you doubled the height, the
amout of bow would be more natural, IMHO.
The Texture of the trunk is also wrong, the tree grows upward, and old fronds
grow old and are broken off the trunk. Depending on the circumstances the trunk
texture is much closer to your original image. This one appears like a snake
that swallowed various sized balls.
Again, I apologize for being too critical. You are doing in a caliber of work
far above my level.

Been pondering this direction since day one but I have not acheived the sandy
beach. yet.

This is my final shot at the image.
Thanks again, Leef me, for the constructive criticism about the texture of the
trunk. It's changed back to the original. The reason it was changed in the
first place was a problem I was having using TomTree.inc.
The beach sand is based on a texture published in the Newsgroups by Thomas De
Groot in October, 2005. The island shape is just a heightfield.

In this particular case, I wonder if the 'green' part of the texture
shouldn't be left out. I don't remember this texture presently, but it looks
like it might be a slope-altitude pattern, only here the altitude seems to
be inversed (green at water level, sand on higher ground)
