Hi there,
This is nowhere like a full scene, just an experiment with some internal
lighting, and to a lesser extent light color. The flames themselves (though
not the actual light sources) were created by the excellent tea light flame
macro by Trevor G Quayle, so he deserves credit if you like them. I certainly
do.

Looks pretty good. I've got my own candle model, but yours has points
I'd like to incorporate; do you intend to release the source?

A beautiful image; you've managed to capture quite well the subtle nature of the
glowing wax. Lighting and colors are really outstanding. Nice work!

Just kidding. Very nice work. Trevor's macro is indeed good, but your use gives
inspiration in a different direction than his. Maybe I'll try my hand.
So a Quayle makes a macro and a Herring uses it for a great result.
Can you provide render times?

How did you get the subsurface scatteting? Media? Or is it simply
fakery through clever texturing?

Thanks! Yes, I'd be happy to release the source. I'll upload it to p.b.s-f
shortly. I'd be interested in what you have for candle modeling as well, I've
been pondering how to make the candle geometry better (right now they're just
cylinders.)

Thanks very much! This is something I've tried to do repeatedly, but this is
the first time something decent has come out of it.

Heh, thanks very much! Hope you share anything you come up with.

So would this make us the first Fish and Fowl remote collaboration? =)

Sure thing, I just re-rendered it to be sure the files I'm uploading work as
expected: Render/Total: 1 hours 12 minutes 49 seconds (4369 seconds)
This is on an Athlon XP 2400+ at 2Ghz, running a custom compiled POV-Ray 3.6.1
(no patches).
I was originally surprised it took as long as it did, as the scene isn't too
complicated. Probably all the area lights, mixed with radiosity.

Its fakery, in that its not real subsurface scattering. My experiments with
media in this area have so far been dismal failures.
Basically each candle is double_illuminated, then a small flat area light or
point light is put just inside the cylinder, right at the top. The light's
fade_distance is set to correspond to the candle's radius. It looks best for
tall thin type candles, where the dark area on the bottom is quite visible.

Hi,
I've posted the sources to this in p.b.s-f.
