The effect is mostly an optical illusion. The stars are all just a boxed
pigment, so a graduated square, with poly_wave 2 to accentuate it a bit. The
reason it looks like a cross shaped flare not a square is an optical
illusion caused by the way your eyes see sharp angles in a gradient, it
amplifies the sharpness making it look like a nice complicated flare effect!
I love optical illusions :)
