Eternally WIP, here's a human eye macro that I've been working on for
quite some time. Textures for the blood veins and iris are fractal
pigment patterns. Still not completely happy with it. Rotation of the
iris pigment elements needs to be worked on to get rid of the spiral
effect and more control of the blood veins is needed, but the pupils
will dilate and eye color is customizable via macro parameters.

Too many veins as well. My eyes only have that many if I am having problems
with my contact lenses, and in that case, the whites of my eyes is almost
entirely pink.

For a moment there, I scrolled through the source to see how you were
calculating how much light was hitting the eye. :-)

I agree with Ross: to many veins (conjunctivitis?), and the black are too
marked, but I'm curious to see the eyes in a face. Could you post a sample?
Thank you,

Nice work. But the blueish surface needs a bit transparency, I could
imagine. So that blueish part looks more plastical, more real. And in this
"blue glass" you can embedd black stripes as seen in the human eye.

Interesting work!

Sven

A beautiful eye:

That's the photo that I used to model the my macro from.

OK, well I think from that photo I see two improvements you could easily
make...

1) The transition from the coloured bit to the white bit is smooth and there
is no black ring like you have
2) Put something good to reflect in the eye!

I wasn't sure how to handle the black ring. Some eyes have a very dark
band around the perimeter of the iris, and some don't. I wanted this
macro to be versatile enough to make different "types" of eyes. I'll
just have to work on the texture some more. I was hoping to stay away
from defining custom iris textures for each eye color, but it's looking
like I'll have to do that.

Concerning the whitish area in the photo I've gone as far as trying
to use a media filled iris (a torus) with the pigments being modeled
similar to flames. Didn't work very well.

> 2) Put something good to reflect in the eye!

Attached is a very old scene I did using an earlier version of the eye
macro.
