Hi,

The past few days there was some discussion about images being minimalistic
or not. Well, more discussion is needed. I'm not sure whether this image is
minimalistic (enough) to enter this IRTC round, so tell me what you think.

Comments and advises about the image itself are welcome as well of course
:).

Frank Stella?

I got that name from Ed Jackson's posting from the 14th this of this month. 
Was about a converting his paintings to 3D. I just happened to remember the 
image since that's what I do best as opposed to remembering names.

As to your picture... well, I think it might need to show more surrounding 
blankness. The single color is a good idea, already, just that the book 
seems to throw a wrench into the works far as it being minimilist. Maybe 
other people won't think so.

That's where I got the name, and did some googling on minimalism. He seems
to be an important figure in minimalism.

Hmm, more blankness around.... this gives me an idea. Tommorrow a new
version will be on display on this newsgroup.

I think it enjoys, even celebrates the taste for clean, simple, geometry 
which characterized both the minimalism movement and its various 
precursors.  Somewhere back in the late 60's/early 70's, someone, I 
think it was Smithson, wrote an essay describing examples of 
architecture that were termed, "Ultramoderne".

I see.  Well I'll admit I don't remember specifically how long the 
"protractor" paintings lasted but it seemed like I was looking at them 
forever.  I think of the "black" paintings as early Stella.  But I guess 
those wacky sculptures must have started appearing about the mid 
eighties or so, now that I think about it, so I guess calling the 
"protractor" works "late" might be pushing it.  Perhaps "mature" would 
have said it better.
