I really like the stone-esque one. Could you give a quick synopsis of
how you did it?

Thanks!

Arlo

Wow, that's an interesting shape! Rarely do I see one that I haven't seen
before, but this one is new and beautiful too.

Now, as I read the subject line before downloading the image, I fantasised
about a ring with scratchy layers. Such as a stone where aging caused the
scratches to appear in multiple layers / shells...

Anyway, congrats! :-)

Regards,
Hugo

Thank you. Here's a short explanation:

I made some macros that traverse a grid of randomly filled
cells and identifies faces, vertices, and edges that defines
the overall shape that all the cells form together.

These faces, vertices, and edges are then passed to a couple
of macros in John VanSickle's "New Surface Subdivision Suite":

http://www.geocities.com/evilsnack/nsss.htm

- which finally produces the smoothed mesh.

A mesh of smooth triangles.

It's made with the same macros that produced the shapes in this image:

I have attached an image that shows some more shapes that I
find interesting. These shapes were all made while I tried
to debug my macros.

When I looked at this image it made me think of the
patterns some file defragmentation programs show before
starting to work on hard drives.

But maybe the use word "fragmented" gives most people
assosiations towards something that is broken.

Thank you.

At first I didn't understand why you called it "nordic",
but now I see that the blue colors probably gives you
assosiations towards cold weather, which we have a lot
of here north.

I'm glad that you like that image.

Beautiful!

I'm always amazed how beautiful and yet "simple" (not in terms of
technique, of course, but in terms of basic shapes and setup) your
images are. And your textures... - Well, I'm really a fan of your images :)
