Excellent moonrock/asteroid texture - heightfield or isosurface?

Nice!

Very nice! I love the terrain. Are you going to add
rocket jets of some sort to the craft aloft? Could
use more color in the picture to add some interest,
not alot though, or it would start to look fake. What
is the green beam on the right?
Good job!

Yes on the jets. Also, the jets are articulated, like those on a harrier
jump-jet. I'll be angling those on the final render.
Color will be sparse in my final image, I think it better portrays the
feeling of a sunbleached asteroid. Feel free to disagree.

The green beam is a landing beacon. I have a question about that. I like
it as is, but I'd like it better if the emissive media were brighter in the
center of the beam and gradually less bright toward the edges. Any ideas?

It's been quite a while since I've been out in space, but I think that the
texturing scheme for the rocks is wrong. Would it be better to have
finish{ambient rgb 0} and then supplement some of the backsides with a light
from your space dude? I know you're apparently in the early stages of
modelling, but sometimes the texture can wreck someone's enjoyment of your
hard work.

I was referrring to things like flags, decals, lights and some
interior lights.

I see now, I missed the source from which the beam emitted.
It blends into the background. No ideas though. Maybe make
it brighter at the emitter.

You could try a cylindrical density pattern

   media
   {
      emission rgb <0, 1, 0>
      density
      {
         cylindrical
      }
   }

BTW shadows look rather flat, dit you use ambient light or radiosity?

Very nice. It's a good angle/view point, but I'd move the craft thats in
the air. Due to the similar colours at first the impression is that its
coming out of the rocks, try moving it up an inch or two.

Thanks on the density thing... I'll check the manual, but I think that's
what I was looking for

I used a little ambient (.2 I think) as well as radiosity.

Yeah, this camera angle is only to place the lifters, It won't be the final
angle.
