I got bored with my backdrop so I did something that looks kinda cool.

You like? :)

Yes a lot. Is it possible to get a 1600X1200 version for my desktop?

Pretty pretty please with sugar on top.....

Now THAT'S what I call ART!
It has a LOT of impact, and the contrast is magnificent!
Did you to Sub-Surface Scattering with this one?
This is an image to "take notes" on lighting from! The lighting is
POYFECT  :-)

How can I possibly refuse? :)
Here's a bigger one.

It's CSG using a squashed torus, thus:

union {
 #declare d = 1; //depth of curve
 #declare r = 2; //width of curve
 difference {
  plane { -z, d }
  cylinder { -z*d*2, 0, 1+r }
  sphere { 0, 1 }
 }
 torus { 1+r, r rotate x*90 scale <1,1,d/r> }
}

Really? I call it killing time when bored! :)

Nope, that's a solid object. It uses a variation on the metallic paint texture I
came up with ages ago (this one:
http://www.evilsuperbrain.com/gallery/index.php?gallery=misc&image=metal_hdr_car
 ), combined with a radial pigment that makes it look iridescent (even though it
isn't!).

The lighting is a bunch of random stuff that looked okay after a bit of
tweaking. It really isn't at all clever. Radiosity with low brightness ('cause I
was too lazy to balance out the other elements of the scene!), a big glowing box
behind the camera, and a nearby area light.

My mother always told me that it never hurts being polite. Well, once again,
she was right!

Thanks a lot Tek, it's my new desktop now!

Ciao!

Such modesty :-)

There is no such thing as randomness. We, as humans, conceive of that
which is too complex for us to objectify as "chaos". You're brilliance
might be complex and subconscious, but it is there!

Well actually it's neither complex or subconcious. I can explain exactly how it
came about: The light position is <-1,3,-2>, which puts it in a quadrant behind
and to the left (which is where I needed it) and uses the figures 1, 2, and 3
which I always use when I first position things in a scene ('cause it's easy and
not obviously axis aligned)!

In fact, the best thing about the lighting is that the light source is very
close to the objects, because I forgot to multiply the light position by 1000!!!
So the thing that looks best was a typo! :)

The big white box was created in a similar way but without a typo, I shalln't
bore you with the details.

I know what you mean, but on this occasion I used the word random in an
innapropriate sense, I tend to use "random" to mean "unplanned", or I suppose
even "darwinian", which is actually nothing like the true meaning of random.
It's like I have my own particular type of slang! :)
