I finally decided to wrap-up this scene. It feels good to finally post to
p.b.i. again. =D
I went away from the idea that the tree was (figuratively) juggling
butterflies, and went back to my original idea for this scene, which was
simply that the tree appeared to be reaching-out to allow the butterfly a
safe/happy place to land. In my mind, the tree is yearning for and/or
worried about the butterfly, which is the only real source of life and color
in this scene.
The tree was done with POVTree/TomTree. The tree has added eye-balls. I
waffled on that idea, so I toned them down, but left them in nevertheless.
For the butterfly, I greatly modified the butterfly include from the POV-Ray
Objects collection, changing the shape of the body and its textures, adding
legs, adding better antenna, getting rid of the eyeballs, and scanning-in
real butterfly wings at a very-high resolution. So, there's very little of
the original butterfly left, but much of the code is the very similar.
The rocks are stretched isosurface blobs (isoCSG) - f_granite. Similarly,
the ground is an isosurface plane - f_crackle - f_granite, and the distant
mountain/rock was done similarly as well.
About 20h to render at this size, on an Athlon 1800+. Relatively little
memory was consumed.

Thanks for the input. Maybe some day I'll make some more changes, but at
some point, I had to move on. I have a lot of other scenes that I want to
create, so I wanted to wrap this up. There were lots of things that I
thought about adding, but I wasn't sure that they would necessarily be an
improvement.
I'll keep the soil depth in mind for the future, if I ever go back to this
again. It does appear a little bit flat. That being said, I think it looks
ok. I have a million ideas with which to utilize Christoph's IsoWood, and
those interest me more than this scene. I just need to stop experimenting
and actually MAKE something. ;-)

Hey, I like this image. The tree and butterfly look good and I like the
concept.
Cheers

Thanks!
I'll probably be using the butterfly in future projects, and I'll probably
post it on my web page, whenever I get around to finishing it (my web page).
