Hi,
I've updated my concert scene with new lighting and suggestions from my
earlier post (http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/32961/)
Now the people are placed randomly on the field. The lighting has been
changed, now more overall lighting, now there are 18 area lights behind the
stage and 36 spot lights on towers at the other end of the stadium. As you
might imagine, this makes the rendering time *a lot* longer, though the
scene looks better.
Suggestions? Comments?

Hi Henry
I think you need to place the people tighter. I mean, U2 is a super group
which attracts 25K - 30K people easy. I didn't go to the POP Mart but
I saw the Zooropa (Zoo TV) back in -93. They sold about 34000 tickets
wich means there where atleast 35000 people there.
Just a thought. :)
Oh, and you need a couple of Marshal stacks on stage too.. Not forgetting
old Bono & friends. ;)

Another thing: Usually the mixer booth is placed let's say about 40-50
meters from stage..
And nowdays they use tv screens placed somewhere halfway throught the crowd.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Yeah, the people need to be denser. Currently there are 6720 people on the
field, I think 10000 would fill it up. What I want to work on next is some
code to do collision detection, currently the people are just placed
randomly and two or more people could end up standing on top of each other.
Another idea is to place more people closer to the stage and have the crowd
thin out toward the back, I still need to figure out a way to do this
(maybe some sort of log function).
The mixing desk is a great idea. I whip something up for that. For the POP
Mart tour they used a giant video screen behind the stage. I have one in
the scene, though it looks dim with all the lights.
My biggest problem now is memory, I've got 448MB of RAM and the scene has
just over 200000 objects. What I really want to do is add people up in the
upper levels of the stadium, around 50000 people all together, but I'm
going to need a lot more RAM for that ;-)

Looks much better, remove the existing lights and replace with a single area
light, if you make it large enough and with few enough elements it should
look much similar - may render a tad quicker
The ppl need to be more tightly grouped, especially towards the stage and I
would make the grass more of a muddy brown :)

Actually, since the people are going to be packed tightly together, you
may not even need separate objects for them. A hightfield or something
similar could do the trick. At least if the camera isn't going to be
closer to the crowd than it is now. And if it is, you could try having
the closest people made separately, and the rest as a heightfield. Or do
a couple of mesh2 people and copy them all over the place. That should
save a lot of memory.
