I am currently rendering a larger version of the glass ball I posted some
days ago (35% done in 1d 16h 30m).
I think there must be something wrong with the dispersion code because I get
strange spots in the image. In the smaller version I just thought it was
artifacts from using to few despersion samples, but now I am using more
samples and the spots are still there.
The attached image (a detail from the large image) shows the problem.
I am using despersion 1.05, 40 samples, ior 1.5 and finish F_Glass5 (from
glass.inc).
I use the official povray 3.5 in windows xp.

Looks like stray photons. Try increasing your photon count, or
decreasing photon spacing, or whatever.

I don't think so because I have "collect off" on the sphere so there should
be no photons at all there. Photons are only collected on the checkered
plane.

Actually, it looks like a reflection of an object which is collecting
the photons, or perhaps some caustic effect being reflected.

Check the "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" thread of 3/14/2003 8:06 PM. Other
folks (including myself) have had the same kind of problem.....

Yes, that's the same problem. Thanks for the info.
Must be a bug in the compiler used to create the official release then...
I don't have VC++ so I can't compile the sources. Is there somewhere I can
get a VC++ compiled version so I can render my image without the bug?
