Modelled in Wings 3D
The zimba mask at right utilizes all procedural textures
The songye masks, left and center utilize image maps, generated with POv
procedural textures and uvmapped using Wings
The "raffia" or fibre headdress of the left mask was made utilizing
lightning code by Ben Birdsey.
Jaime's lighting include files were used.
Comments and criticism, welcomed.

Jim, Very cool! Great colors, modeling, textures and lighting. The fibres on the
left
mask do seem a little to crinkly to my eye to be real grass . The bends are more like
what I'd expect from a plastic material. Perhaps the mechanical simulation features
of MegaPOV 1.0 would be of help?

Very nice masks, Jim! I must say that you found something very
interesting with that "tribal mask modelling". All three are very nicely
modelled and textured (lighting seems good too... ;).

Amazing! This mask my fav at the moment: the expresion is hypnotic.
Very original use of the lightning code, BTW...

Thanks for using it! But don't use it too seriously, as the next
version is going to have some major changes...

Thankyou. I expect to do more. The interest in the whole polygonal
modelling thing seems to have captivated me quite suddenly. I am still
a long way from what the experts can achieve. I find this site quite
interesting, btw, because it provides, frontal, side and 3/4 views:

Yes, while I understand in general concept what the code does, and was
able to adapt it to my purposes, I could not have written it myself. It
made for a pleasing dialectic to have the resource available and be able
to adapt it.

No! thanks for writing it! It's hard to put my finger on just why your
includes make lighting seem so much easier, but they definitely do. I
mean there are still arbitrary decisions to make. But your files seem
to ground the whole process in reality more. Once one has used your
files, it's hard to go back to previous methods.

Looking forward to them. :)

Yes it may be possible to push the effect a little further. But I need
to understand the code better

Was unaware of such features. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nothin' to say that is not already been sayd, but its just
that I do love all three masks.
Well, ok, one thing: the background, maybe not a plain
color, nothing spectacular to keep the focus on the masks
but a little something...

Thanks, that means alot. I am a big admirer of your work

Yes, its actually a mistake. I expected a shadow to fall beneath each
mask but I guess I set the planes a little far back.

Nice, I'd love a set of these as speakers...
do reflex woofers still exist? ;)

Tried it - liked it. Tried to get pov to write an OBJ file so I could
pass a mesh to Wings3d for tweaking and then get an INC back. Couldn't
get Wings to co-operate :(
