Hi folks!

After getting depressed that my Particle-System will never ever
be finished... ;-)
Well, I decided it was the time to begin and try to make an image
worth of Zazzle. Instead of beginning with something totally new,
I've took my Worldbowl, IRTC-Entry of 2002 "Worlds within Worlds",
and refined the code, adding new stuff and increasing the detail.

Some things I did:
-The "curved" surfaces from the notebook are now modelling with
smooth-triangles, requiring less triangles, but achieving a smoother
 look nontheless.
-The flipped page has now a calculated proper length.
-Scattering-Media inserted into the worldbowl for a pleasing view
-Moon is now properly lit by a "sun", to achieve a realistic shading,
 I've also put a bump-map on it.
-Its raining outside, as we can see on the window
-The flowers were exchanged with more detailed ones I made while
working on the Vegetation-Macros (which are at pause right now)
-The vase was taken from "Gerberas" because its very detailed and
because of a different aspect I wanted to keep

Things that are missing in this render:
-All the clouds
-A higher resolution for the heightfield (wasn't required for this size of
render)

Things to do:
-Refine the table
-Add more things
-Change the text on the notebook to something more artistic
-Perhaps change the picture on the wall
-Work on the textures

Any suggestions what people would expect on window-panes, on a
table, and perhaps in that corner behind the Worldbowl, where one
can hardly reach something?

Regards,
Tim

Definitely Zazzle worthy, but I don't believe it's Zazzle friendly. That is,
it isn't very poster like. The scene is nice and definitely worth completing
as it is, but a different composition might be more appropriate for a
poster. Perhaps a close shot of the Worldbowl with a blurred background
including the desk and window.

I'm working on the "Posterness" of the image, though
I'm not quite sure what can be done without losing too
much of the image. Sometimes, a nice effect-layer with
digits, a simple black frame or something like that can
do wonders.

Still, thanks for the suggestion.

Tim

About that pencil, yes, I'll likely add the pen from "2 Lonely" from my
latest IRTC-Entry, and perhaps even model that eraser. As I mentioned
somewhere, I've set myself to add lots of detail before putting it up on
Zazzle. And since it is obvious that there's a long way to go, that
Poster-Issue
will be covered somewhere on the way.
I was thinking about adding huts/lighthouse to the scenery, though I'm not
settled yet at what resolution this scenery is in...

About the lamp: The room has one main lamp on the ceiling, though its dimmed
a bit. Since its not a living room or any bigger room where one might want
to
spend a lot of time in chattering, another lamp would feel kinda awkward to
me,
especially at that spot, near the window...

But I'll keep those lighting-issues in mind, I think you're not too far off
there.

Regards,
Tim

Hope I'm not too critical, but the "water" on the window-pane looks more
like mud thrown by a passing vehicle onto a window. I haven't looked onto a
dark lake lit by a moon through a window with water on it recently, but I
expected to see at least some of the light of the moon illuminating the
drops of water...

Either way, the additions really make this picture even better, which when I
first saw it, didn't think that was possible :) (Especially the media)

Hm. I think it looks rather pleasing, though I'm not quiet satisfied yet.
It might be the resolution. In RL you'd see refractions/reflection of the
moon,
not the moon actually lighting the droplets, and they do exactly that.
Perhaps
the angle causes this, with fresnel reflection and such. I'll see what I can
come up with. If it enhances the image, it'll stay in.

Thanks. That's what I hoped for, and I'm definitely not finished with it.
Right
now I'm rendering a "full version", with all updates till now, perhaps it'll
be a better basis for scrutiny.

This is just a larger render with all objectes (clouds, media, whatnot),
took 10.5 hours on my 1.4 GHZ Athlon, Win98 with 512 MB RAM.

I've found that all these days I've had my Screen set to a wrong resolution:
1280x1024. That's not 1:1.33, it 1:1.25. I've changed it to the proper
one, but the image was still traced wrong...

So, in this image, not a lot has changed in comparison to the older one, but
a larger resolution makes more detail visible, and with all objects switched
on I've can estimate better how changes might affect the rendertime.

Well, enjoy!
